birth story as told by joo

this will come in increments... and i'll use the comment section because it will be tmi. modesty, what modesty?
i'll just say right now that i'm in love with our little man, even if i have no idea why he cries. love equals insanity. :)
also, did anyone save a newspaper from 9/11?? we had one but left it in the delivery room by accident!!

went to dr. appointment on 9/10, which had me at 2-3 inches dilated. dr said, let's get you induced tomorrow. shocked look on my face..so what do you do when you know yer baby is coming the next day? i had been crampy that day and the day before so i figured any day, but to really know and have a date. yeow.
9/11 got up very early to go to hospital around 630am to start the show. rob's entourage left eastern shore MD around 4am!! did paperwork, got into a gown, started IV, blood pressure monitor and fetal monitor. dr broke my water.

lots of water. LOTS. i thought i'd be able to walk around but too much leakage. i hated having to ask the nurse for help to go to the bathroom. especially with rob's family around. but you have to get over it. i think every single nurse in reston has seen my junk... eesh. digression!
pitocin kicked in and contractions not so bad at first. a few hours in i knew i wasn't at my threshold yet, but i knew it would suck bad. so got an epidural. the anesthesiologist was obnoxious but in a good way. he chatted through it all. it didn't hurt for me but the hard part was positioning myslef while having contractions.
the SHIVERS - holy crap, no one warmed me about that. my body started to shiver uncontrollably. my teeth chattered. i was scared. i started to cry. i hate that loss of control. the nurse said this was normal, but i didn't believe it.

then...a lot of what rob said in his blog entry :b i thought after the drugs that everything was peachy and i was all set to keep dilating and have a baby that evening. the shivers subsided tho they came back every so often. it felt manageable... i spoke to my coworkers with that optimism over the phone. so it really threw me for a loop when stuff went down.
all morning there was one nurse or no nurses in the room, and all the sudden there are 5?? yeah, so the shivering came back and i shivered/chattered as they wheeled me to the OR.

and i shivered for the greater part of that time before rob was let in. i also could hear WASH FM (you know, easy listening compromise music) on the radio and i was slightly annoyed by that ;) they numbed me more while asking questions like what is your name, etc. i felt numb up to the arms. they explained stuff to me, which i half listened to, and explained it to rob and asked us to decide if we want to proceed or wait it out.
sooo...earlier in the week i started watching Birth Story on discovery channel. well, only 2 episodes worth. i'm grateful i got to see one c-section. she made the incision (felt nothing. prolly a good thing) and the deed was done. it's weird to hear the first cry but not see anything. my first sight of him was upside down. they asked if we had a name but i really wanted to meet him right side up first. :)
i was wheeled to a recovery area - a dark room. temperature taken, blood pressure taken at regular intervals. i think i had a fever. and some remnant shivering. baby went to the nursery and the inlaws were camera happy/supercuteexcited (so i heard).
