for the record

i weighed 2900 grams (6 pounds, 6.29 ounces) at birth. rob weighed 8 pounds 8 ounces.
i felt a little snippy this weekend. at times. i'll leave it at that. :b
21, 12 ounces, 10 1/2 inches

edit: article mc sent me: i don't crave charcoal. don't think my cravings have increased since prepregnancy. this is the #1 question i've been asked. i'm still funny about meat, i guess. my uncraving. i don't eat a whole lot at a time. and i'd rather it be mixed up with other things. like in a burrito. and i get killer leg cramps.

eeps!

on the rainy monday, i was on ashburn road when the car two ahead of me braked suddenly. so everyone had to brake suddenly. from behind, i hear this SCREEEEEEECH!!!!!!! and i'm bracing myself. you could see smoke/steam from the back tires, and i think s/he hydroplaned, too.
yesterday, at the grandmart parking lot, i was leaving, and i saw a car park really quickly. i was getting near where he was and i had to yield (oncoming car), and he started to back out really quickly. i honked. he braked in time.
toooo close.
so i feel unlucky that i'm in these situations (twice in one week!) but lucky cuz i didn't get hit. it's a lot more nervewracking these days. i mean, nobody wants to get in an accident. but really. i'd rather it not happen.

today is bring your child to work day. i bring mine everyday. *groan*

encroaching

Okay, this baby bump is taking up space. I don’t really feel fat (though sometimes I do). I don’t really feel beautiful (though sometimes I do). I feel a little silly because all weekend I wore maternity pants and all weekend I was pulling them up. Loose still.
And I have the feeling that my body will never be the same again. Goodbye perfect legs! Farewell perfect boobs! Bwahahaha..

half way! holy...fairy godmother!! ;)

Abdominal earthquakes

Got our last ultrasound today. Lots and lots of pictures (one NSFW; heehee), though many of them were of the if-you-say-so variety (e.g. "...and this is the bladder..."). I wonder how much training it takes to tell all that stuff apart. We couldn't get a good profile shot, so the technician tried shaking Joo's belly a few times. The screen went berserk; I wondered if it felt like an earthquake inside. Kid wouldn't be bothered.

So yeah, ultrasound is one of the coolest things ever. Oh, and so is health insurance. We've dropped $30 on medical expenses so far. The pile of statements we get tells us that the actual cost is... a little more.

The next time we see our firstborn, it won't be on a black-and-white screen...

girl or boy?

~we'll start taking wagers. winners will receive... articles of clothing that no longer fit me. :b next ultrasound in 11 days!
~i get annoyed that girls clothes are all pink and boys clothes are all blue. it's an uphill battle, right?? think of all the sociological implications!!! though if we have a girl, and you happen to find a blue dress, i'd give ya mad props. :b
~two more vials of blood required of me. but i was only able to give one. such a zombie existence i lead. i hope cletus has rob's blood spurting ability. i'm just *that* chill.
~my version of sappy - listening to this song, and thinking of stuff, i maaaay have sniffled. thanks rivers.
Little one, how long I've waited here/Waited for so many lonely years
Nobody ever could make me smile/'Till you came round with your pretty style
And I will love you so, and I will love you so
'Cause I was made for you, and you were made for me
And that is all I know, you're all that I can see
'Cause I was made for loving you/And all the little things you do/Remind me who I am inside
Happness is such a fickle thing/Nothing compared to what you can bring
You can bring meaning to what I do/That is why I want to be with you....

there there mrs grumpypants

"...It's the revelation of a new life. Your body changes to meet your baby's needs. There's the swelling readiness of your breasts, the expanding cradle of your womb. You are beautiful, as lovely as a tree that is heavy with fruit." Sorry, La Leche League, but in my grumpy state, your poetic prose failed to make me whip out my microphone-hairbrush, and break out w/ Carole King's Natural Woman.

current mood: grouchy

babycenter week 15:
Your growing baby now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces (about the size of an apple). She's busy moving amniotic fluid through her nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in her lungs begin to develop. Her legs are growing longer than her arms now, and she can move all of her joints and limbs. Although her eyelids are still fused shut, she can sense light. If you shine a flashlight at your tummy, for instance, she's likely to move away from the beam.

the Incubator!!

so more ppl know now. they smile and then their eyes fall to mah belly. i didn't expect *that*. it's unnerving! i know i should just get used to it.
i also get randomly hungry. it doesn't even make sense.

babycenter week 14 update:
Welcome to the second trimester! This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb. Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb. In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces.

hi!

we got to hear the heartbeat again today. i really really like hearing it. very few things make me beam inside... but i suppose this is one of them. "that's MY kid!" ;)

the babycenter update for 13 weeks:
Fingerprints have formed on your baby's tiny fingertips, her veins and organs are clearly visible through her still-thin skin, and her body is starting to catch up with her head — which makes up just a third of her body size now. If you're having a girl, she now has more than 2 million eggs in her ovaries. Your baby is almost 3 inches long (the size of a medium shrimp) and weighs nearly an ounce. As you start your second trimester, most of your baby's critical development will be completed and your odds of miscarriage drop considerably.

random press conference:
q- what made you decide to test?
a- i was late, but i forced myself to wait till it was waaaaay late. so i had that feeling but i didn't let myself think it till testing.
q- food cravings/repulsions?
a- hmm. i really want some long john silvers, but i think it's because LJS is 27 or so miles away and i'm just hyping it up. ground beef grosses me out right now. i had ground turkey yesterday and i wasn't too keen on that either.
